Abstract

This piece of research analyses the electoral offer of the Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG) at the regional level since 1982. Changes in its electoral strategy are examined. Particularly, it assesses the effects of movements along both the left-right and the centre-periphery dimensions on the size of its political group as well as on its options to hold office. Light is also shed on the increasing distance between the BNG´s political preferences and the voters’ positions.

Author Biography

Cristina Ares Castro-Conde, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (España)

Sirve como profesora contratada doctora en el Departamento de Ciencia Política y Sociología de la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. Su tesis doctoral (2008) versó sobre el papel de las regiones en la UE: los casos de Galicia y Alsacia. Estudió el Máster de Estudios Europeos Políticos y Administrativos del Colegio de Europa de Brujas (2004-2005), y completó su formación en instituciones como la Universidad de Oslo, el Instituto Europeo de Florencia y la London School of Economics and Political Science. Ha realizado estancias de investigación en el Instituto de Estudios Políticos de Estrasburgo, el Centro de Ciencias Sociales de Berlín (WZB) y el Centro para el Estudio de Europa de la Universidad de Boston. Es especialista en Política Europea y Política Comparada. En sus primeros años de vida académica publicó artículos, libros y capítulos sobre distintos temas vinculados a la gobernanza multinivel y el déficit democrático de la UE. En la actualidad (2016-2021), es directora del sub-proyecto del Manifesto Project «Extensión de la base de datos en América Latina», financiado por la Fundación Alemana de Investigación Científica (DFG) y alojado en el WZB. Es asimismo miembro de los proyectos Regional Manifestos Project y «Ejercicio de la influencia por parte de España y el resto de Estados miembros de la UE», ambos financiados por el Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad. Su nueva línea de investigación es políticas de envejecimiento.
